American Apparel’s return policy… or How American Apparel is SCREWING its customers… or Seriously, here’s your recipt, just give me my fucking money back…

So, I picked up two shirts the other day from aa. One was awesome, the other… not so much. SO this morning (the next day) I stop in to aa with my recipt and am like, I got this yesterday and I want to return it. The cashier person pointed down to a small sign next to the register stating in bold helvetica that they only allow for store credit for up to 30 days after the purchase. Store Credit?? Whaaaaaaaaaaat!?

Did they have this policy before they were acquired by Endeavor Acquisition? When did this shitty policy go into effect? wow. totally taken aback. I still love aa… but this is real bs.

Update: So apparently you can get cash back on stuff when you buy from the online store, but can’t if you buy from the physical retail store… huh?…

    Hey there,
I work for American Apparel and stumbled across your blog posting..
that return policy went into effect at the beginning of this year. I know a lot of people aren’t very happy about it and I’m not the biggest fan of it either - I will pass on your comments about it for them to reconsider the return/exchange policy. Btw, we haven’t been acquired by Endeavor yet though it is in the works.

    Cheers,
    Lisa

Lisa, Thanks a lot. It is just the strangest thing. For such a cool store, the worst return policy I have ever seen for a company their size. Thanks for passing along the word.

You are the reason that we are all being screwed. You brought these good from this company in the first place, so you have helped fund this. If you bought from a decent store (ie. not a chain), then you would not only get better service, more unique clothes to wear, you would be able to return it. But no, people like you keep burying your head in the sand, and wondering why America is turning into ****. What next, going to complain about Walmart??

Take some responsibility for once in your life. You can chance the way things work, shop responsibly, and talk to your friends about shopping responsibly.

ha. ummm… well, one of the big reasons I shop here is because they have such a different business model than 99% of clothing companies out there (yes, even the small ones), in that instead of paying slave-like wages to sewers working overseas they produce in the US where there are descent labor laws. On top of that they pay pretty good wages.

WalMart has an excellent return policy.

    true, very true

That\’s the only reason why people don\’t talk about it.

i hate those AA salespeople! i wanted to exchange a flex fleece hoodie today that i’d bought two days ago, because i noticed it was pilling and unraveling at some seams. the cashier had the nerve to tell me that “this has been worn, and i can’t reattach the tag, so we can’t accept this.” EVEN THOUGH i had the tag and receipt. she kept insisting that i’d “obviously” worn the sweatshirt.
